He has produced over twenty albums, including two ARIA award winners - Jimmy Little’s instant Australian classic Messenger (1999) and Karma County’s Into The Land Of Promise (2000). His talents extend to piano, drums, percussion and bouzouki, something that has stood him in good stead over the years as an in demand music producer – a one stop shop as writer, multi-instrumentalist, engineer & mixer.
Brendan is best known as singer/guitarist with Karma County. Over the last fifteen years the band have released five albums and toured around the world. Karma County’s double album retrospective Headland was released through Vitamin Records in 2008. In September 2006 Brendan released his debut solo album On Eve St, it was voted one of the top 25 albums of 2006 for the Australian Music Prize (AMP). In September 2009 he followed up with his second solo album Tooraloo & Tender. In 2013 he released his grand opus, double album Wine Island.
Brendan is also the author of The Open Tuning Chord Book For Guitar. Since 1994 it has found it's way into the guitar cases of musicians like David Bowie, Peter Buck (REM), Lee Ritenour, Arlo Guthrie, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Daniel Johns (Silverchair), Paul Kelly, Paul Weller, PJ Harvey, Chris Cheney (Living End), Murray ‘Red Wiggle’ Cook, Lloyd Cole, Tim Rogers and guitarists from Ireland to Lithuania. In December 2008 Brendan signed an international publishing deal with Music Sales/Wise Publications. The new 3rd edition is in shops worldwide now.
Brendan is reknown for his many side projects - Dead Marines featuring ‘The Miracle from Marrickville’ Bernie Hayes and Front End Loader’s Bow Campbell, one album New Day 2005. MILLIONAIRE$ Australian indie supergroup featuring David McCormack (Custard), Jim Elliott (Cruel Sea) & Michael Galeazzi from Karma County, one album Sentimental Horses 2008. B!G Brendan and John Boy Bliss the legendary drummer from The Reels, one ep UNO 2011. Recently he joined seven piece blues band THE PINKS featuring a who's who of Australian music, no records, just some smashing live shows.
Brendan’s songs have appeared in feature films like Summersault, Clubland & The Boys Are Back and TV shows like Sea Change & City Homicide. He has composed for short films by acclaimed directors Rachel Perkins and Warwick Thornton and documentaries for ABC and SBS TV. In 2009 he composed the score for Aussie film Subdivision. In 2011, after twelve years with UNP, he signed a music publishing deal with J Albert & Son.
Since 2001 Brendan has been active in education – teaching part time in the music department at Ultimo TAFE and Australian Institute of Music and conducting production & songwriting workshops at the annual Bondi WAVE program. He has also conducted open tune/slide guitar masterclasses in Australia, UK & Italy and songwriting masterclasses at APRA’s bi-annual Song Summit Sydney. In 2010 Brendan was appointed an APRA Ambassador. In recent years Brendan has been building a live following in Australia and Europe and working as an in demand music producer.
