Merry Xmas

Hi all,

Have been travelling OS  for most of 2022 but managed to record some new things at my old friend Daniele Di Giovanni's home studio in Porto Santo Stefano, Italy while I was away. Yellow Fridge Road, the same place I recorded Short & Sweet album with The Magnolia Orchestra in 2017. I'll be finishing off those recordings at home in Sydney for (most likely) an EP to be released in 2023.

And I'll be out playing the odd solo show, Dead Marines, with Dave Mason, THE PINKS play the blues, and hopefully bring my one man show In The Shadow of the Black Love: Recording & Touring Jimmy Little's Messenger to Australian cities and towns. Have a great break, and I'll see youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

Kill Us All

Spring is mos def in the air in and it's looking good for live music in NSW as Great Southern Nights presents 1,000 gigs in November across the state. I'll be doing five shows with various ensembles so check out dates page for a gig near you.

Only took fifteen years since the first one but the new Dead Marines album Kill Us All is out 20th November and we'll be launching at The Gasoline Pony in Sydney on Saturday 21st November.

And for my APRA member friends I’m standing for re-election as writer director. Please log on to vote at at APRA web site once logged in click on AGM VOTING link, you can view the list of candidates and cast your vote. Please vote for me :) Voting closes next Wednesday 11th November.

And as the 36th president said, vote early, vote often! Brendo

Spring

Have been out playing a few shows the last month or so to real people, some house concerts, a PINKS gig, good to be back. 2020 is my 50th year as a guitarist so will be playing three special shows at The Gasoline Pony for BRENDOFEST Oct/Nov.

October 15th the ballot for the writer director position on the board of APRA opens and I'll be standing for re-election, so please, writer members log on and cast your ballot. For more info you can read my bio and mission statement. As the 36th president said, vote early, vote often!

Winter

So, this is my 50th year as a guitar player. That was quick. After a tricky start, where it was pulled offline for 3 weeks, my new album Restless Creature is now back up on your favourite streaming platform - Spotify, AppleMusic, YouTube etc. Or if you like old skool, I have a few copies on CD left for sale here.

I've also put pen to paper and track by track talked about the songs I recorded, mostly covers, and where/when/how/why, and who with, that they were made.

And when some element of normality returns to our lives (hopefully spring downunder) I'll be embarking on an Australian tour of house concerts. If you'd like to host one get in touch here.

So that's the first 50 years, what about the next? Well, maybe a slower pace but am almost finished mixing the Dead Marines new album - 15 new songs by myself, Bernie Hayes & Bow Campbell. It's only 15 years since the last one. Good things take time.

See youse all on the mean streets (one day soon, fingers crossed)... Brendo June 2020

Autumn

My favourite time of year in Sydney. Much to do. Have started work on 2 new albums.

Dead Marines are getting ready to track their second album, it's only been 15 years since debut New Day. 14 new songs aided and abetted by Lachy Dengate on drums and Pete O'Doherty (Mental As Anything, Dog Trumpet) on bass.

I started playing the guitar the week Jimmy Hendrix died so 2020 marks 50 years as a guitarist. So I'm making an album of my favourite songs, mostly covers, with my favourite people - Jonathan Zwartz, Stu Hunter, Reg Mombassa and others. Songs by Leon Russell, Scot Walker, Fab 4, Junior Parker...

Have a few shows coming up too with THE PINKS, Dead Marines and more, check out dates page. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

2019

A new year, warm in Sydney, much to do. I'll be in Italy 16 January to play some shows with The Magnolia Orchestra - Aldo Betto guitar, Giacomo Da Ros bass & Youssef Ait Bouazza drums. To my Italian friends, a presto!

Then late February I'll be doing a short run of solo shows in Sydney, Brisbane & northern NSW. Check out the dates page for a gig near you. There is talk of some Buried Country shows this year as well, and possibly some LJ Hill gigs too. Stay tuned.

Have been working on new Dead Marines album with Bernie Hayes & Bow Campbell, some really great songs coming along, a real joy. It's only been 15 years since the the last one. And next year marks 50 years that I've been playing the guitar, have a special recording project in mind...

See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

Winter

Back in Sydney after a coupla months travelling OS. Had a great time playing some shows in Italy with The Magnolia Orchestra - Aldo Betto, Giacomo Da Ros & Youssef Ait Bouazza. The songs we recorded on Short & Sweet album went down a treat live. Those guys can really play!

Hope to be recording a new Dead Marines album with Bernie Hayes & Bow Campbell in the latter half of 2018. It's only been 15 years since we started work on the last one.

Will be out playing gigs in various ensembles in the next few months - Sandy Shores, Dead Marines, THE PINKS, Buried Country, solo etc - so check out the dates page for a gig near you. A big shout out to Melbourne where I haven't played a solo gig in a long time - 23 August at Spotted Mallard. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

SOLO!

I'm playing a handful of solo shows to celebrate the release of new album Short & Sweet, recorded with The Magnolia Orchestra in Italy last year.

1st March Bent On Food, Wingham NSW TIX https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=354059&

2nd March Tintenbar Up Front, Tintenbar NSW TIX https://www.tintenbarupfront.com/friday-march-2-2018-brendan-gallagher.html

3rd March #5 Church St, Bellingen NSW TIX https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=349671&

Then I'll be playing some shows in Italy mid April with The Magnolia Orchestra. A presto Italia! Brendo

Short & Sweet

New album Short & Sweet will be out first week of February. Recorded with The Magnolia Orchestra - Aldo Betto (guitar), Giacomo Da Ros (bass) & Youssef Ait Bouazza (drums) - at Yellow Fridge Road in the Tuscan seaside village of Porto Santo Stefano, Italy. Engineered by Daniele Di Giovanni and Max Costa. 10 songs, 32 minutes, Short & Sweet!

Over the last ten years I've made some great connections in Italy, played a lot of shows with Aldo & Giacomo, and more recently with Youssef as well. Three nicer blokes you wouldn't meet on a day's march.

Check out this making of Short & Sweet clip set to an instrumental version of Fred Buscaglione's classic Guarda Che Luna.

I'll be doing a handful of solo regional gigs in NSW in March and then some shows in Italy in April with The Magnolia Orchestra. Check dates page for more. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo

Summer

Dust has settled on elections for the board of APRA and I'm very pleased to say I've been returned as a Writer Director. Thanks to all those members who voted for me. And congratulations to Nigel Westlake who was also returned as a director and picked up an ARIA award earlier this week to boot.

Now I can get back to work on the album I started recoding in Italy in April with The Magnolia Orchestra - guitarist Aldo Betto, bass player Giacomo Da Ros & drummer Youseff Ait Bouazza - and engineers Daniele 'The Chipster' Di Giovanni & Max Costa. Should be out in February with hopefully an east coast Australian tour with The Magnolia Orchestra in March. Here's a taste of what's to come Xmas Tree.

Much to do in 2018: Buried Country shows in Tamworth, Sydney and more, a new Dead Marines album, more projects with the fabulous Dave Mason. Keep an eye on Tour Dates. See youse all on the mean streets... Brendo (pic by Marco Piazza)
